SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Lacey Viselli (So., Surprise, AZ/Valley Vista H.S.) scored a game-high 15 points to help lead the Mesa women to a 53-32 win over Division I South Plains Monday at the Bill Culver Memorial Classic at Scottsdale Community College.
Viselli led the way as MCC built a 29-20 halftime lead. The T-Birds then limited the Texans to just 12 points in the second half. The Mesa defense put the brakes on SPCC shooting, holding it to a 10-62 night from the floor.
Taylor Reed (Fr., Kingman, AZ/Kingman H.S.) added ten points for MCC and Erica Vasquez (So., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) chipped in with eight.
Amazingly, the T-Birds did not attempt a single free throw in the contest, while South Plains went 7-15 from the line.
Mesa continues play in the Scottsdale tournament Tuesday when it meets Foothills (Calif) at 1:30 p.m.
