Diamondbacks to honor Mesa women's basketball team at Wednesday afternoon game

MESA, AZ - The Arizona Diamondbacks will hold a pre-game ceremony Wednesday to honor the Mesa women's basketball team which won the NJCAA Division II national championship this winter.

The event will take place at Chase Field just prior to the D-Backs' 12:40 p.m. game against the Miami Marlins.

It will celebrate the MCC team's first national title, which was the 17th in school history for all sports. The Mesa baseball team won the school's 18th title this spring.

The T-Birds had finished second a year ago, but returned most of the starting lineup and followed through with the national title.

Mesa finished 28-5 and is sending three players on to NCAA Division I schools next year and a fourth to Division II.

Also honored Wednesday will be Sports Information Director Wayne Block who was recently inducted into the national Hall of Fame of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
