Another successful meet for Mesa track and field

  Paradise Valley, AZ – It was another highly successful meet for the Mesa track and field teams with eight athletes bettering NJCAA standards for national championship competition.

  Two, Makel Hubbard and Van Harvey Vance, added their names in a second event, while two more joined the qualifying list for the first time.

  Hubbard added his name in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.19. That was in the day's finals and improved on the mark he set in the qualifying heats of 8.29. He already has met the standard in the high jump.

  Van Harvey Vance added his name in the 400 with a 48.09 clocking. He has already earned a spot at nationals in the 600.

  Jacob Samford improved his mark in the 400 as well, with 48.61 clocking.

  Juba McClay also improved his standing in the triple jump with a leap of 48-4.

  Also, Andrew McCumber added his name to the list in the 1,000-meters with a 2:33.35 clocking.

  Among the MCC women, two new athletes joined the qualifying list.

  Camille Foster ran the 400 in 57.96 and Jolynn Fleming became the third T-Bird to qualifying in the pole vault with a jump of 10-1 ½.

  In addition, Beth Huber equaled her pole vault standard with a leap of 11-1 ½.

  The T-Birds will compete at the Gaucho Indoor Invitational next week on Friday and Saturday. That meet will also feature the season's first competition in the multi events.
