Men sixth, women 12th, after day two of NJCAA Track and Field National Championships

  Hobbs, N.M. -   The Mesa men's track and field team was sixth, with 16 points and the women 12th with nine points after the second day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships Friday.

  For the women, Rees Young picked up eight of the nine points by placing second in the heptathlon with 4848 points, just 27 short of the winning total.

  Sadie Sweeney had already collected MCC's other points with an eighth place finish in the hammer Thursday.

  Quin Johnson qualified for Saturday's 1500-meter final in 4:55.61 while placing second in her heat.

  On the men's side, Makel Hubbard added five points to the T-Birds' total with a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6-9 ¾.

  Juba Clay scored a point with his decathlon score of 5691.

  Other women's performances: Alise Green 100 meters  23rd place (12.35); Camille Foster 100 meters 24th (12.41); Maggie Orr 17th 3000-meter steeplechase (13:32.61).

  Non-scorers for the men: James Kenyata 100 meters 27th (10.68); Andrew McComber 1500 meters 23rd  in preliminary did not qualify for finals (4:27.31); Benjamin Brady 3000-meter steeplechase 22nd 10:43.96; Flyn Fuhrmann 3000-meter steeplechase 12th (10:21.33); Tristan Stellmach 3000-meter steeplechase 13th (10:23.74); 4x100 relay 13th (41.57) did npt qualify; 4x400 relay 11th (3:16.85) did not qualify; 4x800 relay 14th (8:17.06).

  The meet ends Saturday.
