Men's track and field goes 3-1, women 2-2, at ACCAC championships

  Paradise Valley, AZ – The Mesa men posted a 3-1 record and the women a 2-2 mark at the ACCAC championships Saturday in an event scored as a series of dual meets among the five participating teams at Paradise Valley.

  The men defeated Glendale 122-66, Paradise Valley 123-53 and Pima 112-85 while falling to Central Arizona 107-91. The MCC women topped Glendale 103-44 and Paradise Valley 89-64 but lost to Pima 99-73 and Central Arizona 115-56.

  The men had another good day in relation to qualifying for the up-coming NJCAA championships with two athletes joining the list for the first time and another improving his mark.

  William Blocker added his name to the NJCAA list with a 55.41 clocking in the 400 hurdles to currently rank him 15th in the nation.

  In addition, Noah Lovato joined the group in the pole vault with a leap of 14-7 ¼ which tires him for 15th in the country. Mesa's indoor national champion Kyle Downey equaled his top performance of the year at 16- ¾ and remains No. 1 in the nation.

  Nikaeus Hale-Mercer improved his best in the shot put at 55-1 and holds the No. 5 spot in the nation currently.

  Antwan Ross-Jones is tied for third nationally with his 6-9 ¾ high jump which he equaled Saturday.

  Cameron Lewis also beat the standard in both the discus and shot put but already has better marks. He is third in the discus at 163-1 and seventh in the shot with a toss of 53-9 ¾.

  The 4x100 relay team also bettered the standard Saturday but possesses a better time. Mesa ranks 12th at 41.26. The team Saturday was composed of Michael Abramson, Marquis Brown-Tiller, Bryce Clemons and Jacob Suber.

  MCC's top two women's pole vaulters also equaled their NJCAA qualifying performances at the ACCAC championships. Justice Angel cleared 10-11 ¾ and is tied for sixth place nationally while Miranda Worthen jumped 10-6 and is tied for 11th in the country.

  This weekend the two squads will compete in the Pima Aztec Outdoor Friday in Tucson and the Arizona State Sun Angel Classic in Tempe Saturday.
