Women finish 8th, men 13th as NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Nationals Close

  Pittsburg, Kan. The Mesa women finished eighth and the men 13th at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships which concluded Saturday.

  The women scored 32 points and the men 22.5.

  All-American Alyson Girard bounced back from illness that kept her from competing in the 3000 and 5000 meters Friday to take second place in the mile with a time of 5:08.74.

  Onnika Scott placed seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 55-5 ½.

  In non-scoring performances, Samantha Miller was 12th in the mile in 5:18.37 and Phoebe Larson was 15th in the triple jump at 35-10 ¾.

  For the men, Zach Harrach scored in two events. He was fifth in the 1000 in 2:33.32 and eighth in the mile with a 4:19.01 clocking.

  Xavier Johnson improved his standing in the heptathlon from fourth after the first day to finish third with 4895 points.

  Also in non-scoring performances, Cameron Lewis was ninth in the weight throw at 54-2 ½, Adrian King placed 15th in the triple jump with a leap of 45-8 ½ and the 4x400 relay team placed 19th, clocked in 3:23.28.

  The T-Birds will begin their outdoor season on March 17 at the Baldy Castillo meet at Arizona State and the Willie Williams meet at the University of Arizona the following day.
