Mesa Track and Field Impress in Mesa Invitational

MESA, AZ – As the Mesa men's and women's track and field teams prepare for the up-coming regional and national championships, several athletes had outstanding performances at the Mesa T-Bird Invitational Friday night at John D. Riggs Stadium.  

MCC was dominant in the men's pole vault and hammer, taking the top four places in the former and three in the latter, all with NJCAA National Championship performances.  

In the pole vault, Leonard Bellgardt, IV, was first at 15-7, followed by Treston Slater at 15-1 and D'Angelo Foster and Riley Korcuska who tied for third with jumps of 14-7 ¼.  

Meanwhile, in the hammer, Josh Hamberlin and Josh McBride tied for first with throws of 188-8 and Clay Campbell took third at 177-1.  

In addition, Adrian King won the long jump with a leap of 23-8 ¾, and Joshua Davis was second in the 110 hurdles in 14.98.  

On the women's side, Allyson Girard captured the 800 with a 2:17.91 clocking.  

The 4x400 relay of Marissa Freeman, Teleya Bailey, Phoebe Larson and Myrna Navarrete was victorious with a time of 4:01.66.  

Sayge McKrill was second in the discus with a toss of 137-1.  

The teams will now prepare for the championship season. Multi-event Region I championships will be Monday and Tuesday with all other events being held May 3rd and 5th. All will be held at John D. Riggs Stadium.  

NJCAA nationals will take place May 17-19 in Levelland, Texas.
