Outdoor Track and Field Season Kicked Off at Baldy Castillo Meet

TEMPE, AZ – The outdoor track and field season kicked off for the Mesa men's and women's teams at the Baldy Castillo Meet at Arizona State Friday and Saturday, with MCC gaining seven NJCAA nationals qualifiers in its first outing.  

The T-Bird men picked up five, including two each in the pole vault and hammer.  

Mesa's two pole vaulters who took second and third places at the NJCAA national indoor meet, Leonard Bellgardt, IV, and Teston Slater picked up right where they left off. Slater actually had the better performance this weekend clearing 15-7. Bellgardt went 14-9.  

In the hammer, Jacob McBride posted a 183-2 toss while Josh Hamberlin went 179-5.  

In addition, Adrian King leaped 24-1 ¾ in the long jump.  

The women were led by Allyson Girard who recorded a 4:52.64 in the 1500 and Onnika Scott who 
tossed the hammer 147-2.  

Mesa participates in the Puma Outdoor Distrance and Multi-Events Thursday through Saturday at Paradise Valley.
