T-Bird Softball Splits Two With Coyotes, 8-5 Win, 5-2 Defeat

Mesa, AZ - As the regular season nears its end, the final three spots for the Region I / ACCAC DII tournament are still up for grabs for four teams still in the hunt.  The Thunderbirds and Coyotes are two of those teams and each of them won a game today in a double-header at MCC.  

Mesa won game one, 8-5, with the Coyotes winning game two, 5-2.  In game one, the T-Birds scored all its runs in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring five in the fifth and three in the sixth.  Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the T-Birds collected four hits while sending all nine batters to the plate during the inning.  With two runners on base, Jaden Encinas singled home Alysa Matus and Jadin Placencio to tie the game at two.  Three batters, with two runners on the pillows, Jaden McDaniel doubled home both runs to make it a 5-2 game.

In the sixth inning, it was Jaden McDaniel again who singled in two runs to make it a 7-2 game.  Ieleen Guardado would score the final run for Mesa as she scored on a wildpitch.

With the one win and loss, Mesa moves to 23-25 overall and 19-25 in conference play.  The T-Birds have four games remaining in the regular season as they will have a week until they play Central Arizona at home, beginning at 1 pm then they will finish the season at Pima on Saturday, May 4th, beginning at noon.
