Pima slips two games past Mesa softball, 8-1, 10-9

Mesa, AZ- The Mesa Thunderbirds softball team dropped their double header to Pima Tuesday afternoon, 8-1, 10-9.

Nikki Verdugo gave up 10 hits and six earned runs in game 1 to the Aztecs.  Verdugo pitched well but didn't get much help behind her on defense which led to longer innings and more pitches.

In game 2, Leighann Ballesteros cranked a three run homer over the center field fence in the fourth inning that put Mesa up 5-4.  The Aztecs battled back, extending their lead to 10-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

A couple hit batters and singles helped Mesa score four runs in the inning but fell short with a runner on third to tie the game.  Mesa finished the game with 14 total hits.

Mesa is now 4-4 on the season, 2-4 in the ACCAC.  The T-Birds will be home on Saturday for a double-header against Central Arizona, first game at noon.
