PHOENIX, AZ - ACCAC-leading Phoonix, ranked fourth in the nation in the NJCAA Division II pre-season poll, had to battle to take two wins from Mesa in softball Saturday, 7-3 and 3-0.
The T-Birds took a quick, 2-0, lead in the first inning of game one on a two-run single by Natasha Mercado (Fr., Las Cruces, N.M.) The Bears, however, evened things with two in the second and then took a commanding lead with a four-run fourth. Mercado finished with two hits in the game.
In game two, PC again scratched across two in the second and made it hold up for a 3-0 win. Mishell Quinonez (So., Douglas, AZ/Douglas H.S.) was 2-3 for MCC.
Mesa returns home Tuesday to host Paradise Valley in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
