Big late innings stop softball as Eastern Arizona takes two
MESA, AZ - Big late innings by Eastern Arizona spelled the difference as the Gila Monsters swept a doubleheader from Mesa, 13-5 an 9-4 Wednesday.
In game one EAC broke open a 3-3 tie with four in the fourth and went on to add three each in the next two innings.
MCC got an RBI double from Meggan Horn (So., Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino H.S.) in the second and a run-scoring triple by Alina Lopez (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.), followed by a fielder's choice by Alyssa Gallegos (Fr., Yuma, AZ/Cibola H.S.) that plated Lopez.
Natasha Mercado (Fr., Las Cruces, NM/Centennial H.S.) had two hits for MCC.
In the second game Mesa trailed just 4-3 entering the sixth when Eastern erupted for five runs.
Kendra Whalen (So., Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino H.S.) had a big game at the plate going 3-3.
Mesa finishes a long stretch of Division I opponents when it hosts Arizona Western Saturday at noon.
