MESA, AZ - The Mesa softball team (12-36, 9-31) was swept by Glendale (25-27, 18-24) in a doubleheader over the weekend in a ACCAC matchup. The T-Birds lost by scores of 18-5 and 12-5.

The Gauchos struck first when it loaded the bases with one out during its opening at-bat of the game. Tori Pogue led off with a walk as Chihiro Furuta, Sianna Gomez and Rebecca Burkland each hit a single as well. Glendale scored 12 runs in the first inning making it hard for the T-Birds to come scorching back.

Samantha Christensen (Fr., Shelley, Idaho/Skyline) took the loss. She scattered 23 hits, allowed 18 runs, struck out four and walked two in the five innings of the game.

The second game started off well as MCC were able to hold off the bats in the the first frame, but the Gauchos showed up in the second inning with seven hits and four scored runs in the second inning alone. The T-Birds lost 12-5.

Defensively, the T-Birds committed at least five errors between both games. 

Kelley Pugh (So., Winslow, Ariz./Winslow) pitched the mound, allowing 18 hits and 12 runs in seven innings.

The T-Birds return to action Saturday when they travel to Glendale, Ariz. in another doubleheader. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
