Bio

Steve Jacobs begins his 31st year as head coach of the MCC Women’s and Men’s Track and Field program.

He began his coaching career as an assistant at MCC in 1982 moving the following year to Arizona State University, and then coming back to MCC in 1989 as head coach. Under his direction, Thunderbird Track & Field consistently ranks among the top NJCAA teams in the country.

Unfortunately, some records are incomplete, however, including both the men's and women's Track & Field programs (indoor and outdoor), MCC teams have placed among the top ten in the nation 32 times at the NJCAA National Championships. In addition, he has coached 43 individual National Champions and 506  All-Americans.

Jacobs, the Arizona State High School Champion in the Pole Vault, graduated from Glendale High School in 1975 and has a long list of accomplishments in Track & Field.  He is a two-time All-American in the Decathlon at the University of Arizona, team captain and MVP of the Wildcat Track & Field team.  Coach Jacobs was the Decathlon Runner-Up in the 1979 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

From 1979-1988, he competed internationally in the World University Games in Mexico City and three USA/USSR Decathlon meets, where he was the top American finisher in 1981. Jacobs also competed in the 1980 & 1984 USA Olympic trials.
