Track and field ready for NJCAA indoor national championships

  Lynchburg, Va. - Its' national championship time for the nationally-ranked Mesa men's and women's track and field teams.

  The MCC men are ranked seventh in the nation and the women 11th and will be competing Friday and Saturday at the NJCAA Division I national title meet which will be held at Liberty University.

  The T-Birds have a host of athletes who have qualified for nationals.

 Among the men ranked in the top 15 in the nation are:
  -Makel Hubbard – Ranked 1st in the nation in the heptathlon. He has equaled the NJCAA national record with 5331 points, a mark set by former MCC great Pau Tonnesen. Also 17th in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.19 as well as eighth in the high jump at 6-10 3/4 and 14th in the pole vault at 14

-Vanharvey Vance – 400 meters – 13th – 48.09

-Luke Nicolds – 800 meters – 12th – 1:54.08

-Andrew McCumber – 1,000 meters – 11th – 2:30.05

-4x800 meter relay – 6th – 7:45.46

-Distance medley relay – 6th – 10:18.57

-Lofton Thomas – pole vault – 5th – 15- 1 ¾

-Triple jump – Juba McClay – 5th – 49-5 ¾ & 5th – heptathlon – 4673 points

-Shot put – Uriel Hernandez – 14th – 49-7 ¼

-Tanner Willis – 10th heptathlon – 4522 points

-Shane Leeper – 13th heptathlon – 4424 points

Women

-Desiree Jackson – 60 meter hurdles – 9th – 8.82

-Mary Simi – 1,000 meters – 12th – 3:04.15

-4x400 meter relay – 15th – 4:03.97

-4x800 meter relay – 9th – 9:52.35

-Distance medley relay – 7th – 12:56.87

-Belle Huber – pole vault – 2nd – 11-7 ¼

-Janie Tenney – pole vault – 4th – 10-10

-Jolynn Fleming – pole vault – 6th – 10-7 ½
