Another banner meet for MCC track and field at T-Bird indoor

Mesa, AZ – It was yet another banner day for the Mesa track and field teams at the T-Bird Indoor Invitational at John D. Riggs Stadium Saturday.

Two more MCC athletes added their names to the NJCAA qualifying list for the first time. Three more added a new event to their list, having qualified in other specialties previously. And three others improved on the standard they had previously set.

Cross country All-American Flynn Fuhrmann joined the NJCAA qualifying club for Mesa's fifth-ranked men, covering the 5,000 meters in 15:27.80.

For the ninth-ranked women, Mary Simi qualified for the first time with a 3:04.15 1,000 meters.

The men had two runners join the list in a new event, in fact the same event, the 1,000-meters. Conner Dosmann ran a 2:30.05 and Geoffrey Grossthal a 2:33.51. Another MCC athlete in that event, Andrew McCumber, improved on his previous time with a 2:30.05.

Meanwhile, Luke Nicolds bettered his previous time in the 800 with a 1:55.22 and Uriel Hernandez tossed the shot 49-7 ¼ to set a new standard.

On the women's side, Destinee Jackson qualified for the first time individually with a 9.05 60-meter hurdles clocking.

Two other athletes beat the NJCAA mark, but already have better performances: Lofton Thomas, 15-1 ½ in the men's pole vault and Belle Huber, 11-1 ¾ in the women's pole vault.

  Complete meet results.
