Men's tennis opens season with 6-3 win over Imperial Valley
Mesa, AZ - The Mesa men's tennis team got its season off to a fast start with a 6-3 victory over Imperial Valley (Calif.) Friday.
"I am very proud of the way we played today," said new head coach Feroz Rast. "I thought the guys came out with a purpose and that was to dominate. We played very smart and under control. We still have a lot of work to do but we know it is a process and we have to focus on every step. Looking forward to getting everyone healthy and on the court."
The T-Birds were, in fact, dominant, winning all four of the singles matches they entered by 6-0, 6-0, scores and the two doubles, 8-0 and 8-2.
Winning in singles were Wyatt Anderson at No. 1, Saarang Phadnis at No. 2, Hung Pham at No. 3 and Maxwell Beasley at No. 4. Anderson and Phadnis took the No. 1 doubles matct, 8-2, and Pham and Beasley teamed at No. 2 to win, 8-0.
MCC's scheduled match Saturday against Arizona Christian has been postponed, so the T-Birds will not return to action until Feb. 20 when they will host Paradise Valley in the season's first ACCAC match.
