Men's tennis has outstanding weekend at Wildcat Invitational

  Tucson, AZ – It was an outstanding weekend for the Mesa men's tennis team playing at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona.

  MCC had two singles players reach the championship matches in two flights, another played in the consolation final in one flight and a doubles team win a consolation finals. Most came against four-year NCAA Division I opponents.

  Sophomore Lucas Severo made it all the way to the U.S. Open singles draw final before falling. He defeated Leo Andreolli, of Grand Canyon, and Peter Hairi, of Ottawa, before finally losing to Nick Mitchell, of San Diego State, 0-6, 4-6.

  Meanwhile, Kyryll Kryvchun reached the Australian Open final with wins over Stepan Hollis, of the University of New Mexico, De Hann, of New Mexico State and Valentin Lang, of Grand Canyon, before being stopped in the championship, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 2-6, by Mathieu Rajaonah, of Grand Canyon.

  Back in the U.S. Open singles bracket, Yohann Prinsen fell in the opening match to Mitchell, of San Diego State, but then defeated Nico Macedo, of Grand Canyon before losing to Andreolli, of Grand Canyon, 4-6, 0-6.

  In doubles, Kryvchun and Prinsen lost to a duo from Boise State in the Wilma Wildcat draw, but then topped Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona teams before winning in the consolation final against a team from Northern Arizona, 6-3.

  The team will now take a break before splitting up to play in the UNLV and Grand Canyon Invitationals Nov. 2-4.
