Severo reaches semi-finals for No. 5 singles title at NJCAA men's tennis championship

  Plano, Texas – Mesa's Lucas Severo, a freshman from Porto Alegre, Brazil, reached the No. 5 singles semi-finals at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championship Wednesday. 

  Severo defeated fifth-seeded Alberto Mello, of Laredo,  6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to advance to the semi-final match. He will face top-seeded Drew Brown of Tyler, at 8:00 a.m. Central time.

  The T-Birds are currently in ninth place with 21 points, one behins ABAC and one in front of Collin.

  MCC's two remaining doubles teams both fell in quarter-final action.

  At No. 1 doubles Gergo Rendek and Jeff Martin lost to the No. 1 seeded team, Tin Chen and Sergio Ingles of ASA-Miami, 2-6, 1-6. In addition, Erik Dallmann and Severo dropped a 1-6, 6-7 (4) match to third-seeded Killian Dagneaux and Casey Edwards of Cowley.

  The tournament continues Thursday.
