Phoenixm AZ - The Mesa men's tennis team headed home Sunday after a very successful tournament at Grand Canyon University.

The T-Birds scored four doubles wins out of 10 against NCAA DivisionI programs and also won five singles matches as well.

Coach Ali Borhani was very happy with how the team turned it around after a slow start on Friday. "We had the deer in the headlights look and didn't look like we belonged out there." But MCC rallied and competed very well.

According to Borhani, The five singles wins could have been nine if they had finished those three-set matches better. "Every day we are improving and learning, and we are so lucky to have a guy like Gergő Rendek who is an incredible leader on and off the court." Gergő has a 4.0 GPA and plays No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Mesa

"The guy has the softest touch I have ever seen." said coach Borhani.

The T-Birds finish the fall season with one last scrimmage against Glendale CC on Friday at home.
