Small lineup shuffle for men's tennis no problem, blanks Paradise Valley, 9-0
Mesa, AZ – Despite a slightly shuffled lineup, the Mesa men's tennis team swept to another ACCAC shutout, topping Paradise Valley Tuesday, 9-0. It was MCC's sixth straight win, improving to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
"The men played great," noted head coach Adam Cohen. "We had a little hiccup at #2 doubles. Matt Fisher was out today with a hand injury, so we plugged in Kim Donghyun at #2 doubles with Eduardo Cuoto. They were able to scrape together a win. Our new player Gergo Rendek went 8-0 with his partner David Felix in doubles and then he went 6-0, 6-0 in singles. I don't know if any Mesa player has ever started out his college career not giving up a single game in singles or doubles."
Donghyun and Cuoto were able to win, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles over Victor and Bryan Tuncap. David Felix, No. 14 in the nation, scored a solid, 6-0, 6-2 win over Nick Marraquin at No. 1 singles. Renedek and Cuoto were each 6-0, 6-0, victors at No. 5 and 6 singles respectively.
The T-Birds will remain at home Wednesday hosting Pima at 11:00 a.m.
