Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds men's soccer team defeated the Scottsdale Artichokes Thursday night, 2-1, in a tough, scrappy contest.
Both teams battled at 110 percent as each team knows the importance of winning these conferences matches.
Scoring didn't begin for either team until the second half when Preston Grayson knocked in the first goal off an impressive attack by Jesus Garcia Jr. For Grayson, that's his ninth goal on the year.
After the Artichokes tied it at one, it was Grayson this time who led the offensive attack, finding Fernando Perez, who put it in the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Steady defense held the Artichokes at bay from then on out as Mesa wrapped up its third conference victory on the season, now 3-2 in the ACCAC.
Overall, Mesa holds a 8-4 record and will head to Prescott, AZ this coming Saturday night to face the Yavapai Roughriders.
