Hard Fought Battle with Chandler-Gilbert Yields Tie, 1-1

Gilbert, AZ- The Mesa Thunderbirds and Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes have proven early on this season that they are some of the top teams in the conference.  They battled to a tie to see who would take bragging rights into the rest of the ACCAC season.

After two halfs and two overtimes, the Thunderbirds and Coyotes finished in a 1-1 tie.

Chandler-Gilbert did strike first in the first half.  On the offensive attack, the Coyotes kept the ball inside the box after a few shots were blocked by Mesa goalkeeper, Omar Molina.  Molina did play a solid match, allowing just the one goal with nine saves.

Two minutes before half at the 43 minute mark, Mesa's Glen Asare, slipped past the Coyote back line and netted a chip shot over the Chandler-Gilbert keeper to tie the match at one.

For the rest of the night, each team played physical and had shots on goal, but each keeper played well and neither team could get that one goal to pull away with the win.

This is the first tie for Mesa this season.  They are now 2-1-1.  They play again on Thursday against a tough Arizona Western team at home with the first kick at 4:30 p.m.
