Delgadillo, Lopez Each Record Hat Trick in 6-3 Win

It was quite the home opener for the Mesa Thunderbirds men's soccer team as they not only had one player record a hat trick but two players accomplished the feat.

Benjamin Delgadillo and Manuel Lopez help propel the T-Birds to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Gateway Geckos Tuesday night.

Mesa quickly went down 2-0 in the first half but at around the 36 minute mark, Delgadillo connected on Mesa's first goal to cut the Gecko lead to one.

Delgadillo again in the 44th minute tied the match up at two with a cross shot to the far post.  Vago Martins recorded the assist on that goal and both teams headed into halftime tied.

Mesa came out pump, especially Delgadillo, as he again scored a minute into the half.  Gateway came right back down the field and scored a goal of their own to tie the match back up three.

That's when Manuel Lopez stepped up big time for the T-Birds as he scored the final three goals of the match to help Mesa knotch their first victory of the season.

Mesa attempted 11 shots on goal compared to just three for the Geckos.

The T-Birds won't be back in action til next Tuesday, August 30th, when they play at home against the Scottsdale Artichokes.  Match kicks off at 4:30 p.m.
