Rios' goal lifts men's soccer to important win over Chandler-Gilbert, 1-0

CHANDLER, AZ - Ignacio Rios (So., Mesa, AZ/Dobson H.S.) picked an opportune time to score his third goal of the season. It helped lift the Mesa men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Chandler-Gilbert and helped boost MCC's chances of earning a Region I playoff berth.

With the win the T-Birds improved to 10-8 and still occupy sixth place in the ACCAC. CGCC is directly behind at 8-9-1. Under the regional point system Mesa now has 30 points and the Coyotes 25 with each tean having two games remaining to play.

Brian Perea (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mesa H.S.) served a cross to Rios on the winning goal. For Perea that makes nine assists on the year.

Carlos Becerra (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Skyline H.S,) recorded the shutout in goal, MCC's fifth of the year.

The T-Birds will host Pima Thursday on Sophomore Night at John D. Riggs Stadium in a 5:30 p.m. start. They close the regular season at Paradise Valley Saturday at noon.
