Men's soccer blanks Paradise Valley, 2-0

MESA, AZ - The Mesa men's soccer team broke a two-game losing streak as it ended the first half of the regular season with a 2-0 win over Paradise Valley Tuesday at John D. Riggs Stadium.

  With the win, MCC closes the first half with a 6-4 record. PVCC is 1-9.

  The T-Birds got on the board quickly as Luis Garduno, pictured right, (Fr., Tempe, AZ/Tempe H.S.) recorded his first goal of the season just 1:38 into the contest.

  That's the way it stood until the second half when Marlon Bonilla (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Dobson H.S.) scored his second goal in three games in the 60th minute.

  Goalkeeper Carlos Becerra (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Skyline H.S.) made four saves in helping MCC to its fourth shutout of the year.The T-Birds out-shot the Pumas, 16-9.

  Mesa returns to John D. Riggs Stadium Thursday for a 4:30 p;m. contest with South Mountain.
