SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A goal by Ari Sanchez, pictured right, (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) near the end of the first half was all the Mesa men's soccer team needed to down Scottsdale on the road Wednesday night in a re-scheduled contest.
The win lifts MCC to 5-2 on the year.
Sanchez' fourth score of the season, coming in the 40th minute on an assist from Brian Perea (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mesa H.S.) gave the T-Birds the win and a little redemption from what might have been a victory when the two teams first met Sept. 4. That contest was halted just 20 seconds before it would have been declared an official game with MCC on top, 2-1, due to lightning.
Instead, keeper Carlos Becerra (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Skyline H.S.) recorded his second shutout of the year, making four saves.
Mesa goes back into action at home Thursday when it faces Chandler-Gilbert in a 5:30 p.m. contest at John D. Riggs Stadium.
