Poor second round costs men's golf in second place finish at Chandler-Gilbert Inv.

  MESA, AZ _ After equalling its best round in three years with a 275 on the first day of play at the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational, the Mesa men's golf team soared to a 288 Tuesday and placed second, five shots behind South Mountain. The event was played at the Toka Sticks G.C.

  SMCC equaled the T-Birds' 275 on day two to overtake Mesa, finishing at 283-275--558. MCC had a 275-288--563. Eastern Arizona was third, 19 shots behind Mesa.

  Austin Fletcher (So., Memphis, Tenn/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.), and T.J. Katherineberg (Fr., Mesa, AZ) tied for third individually with five-under 139s. Fletcher carded a 69-70--139 and Katherineberg a 67-72--139.

  Alex Lobeck (So., Mandan, ND/Perry H.S.) was seventh with a 67-76--143.

  The T-Birds take a break until March 7-8 when they will host the Thunderbird Classic at the Lone Tree C.C.
