Tenacious Comeback by Mesa Rewarded with 71-70 Win Over Scottsdale

Mesa, AZ - What a finish Wednesday night at Theo Heap Gym as the Mesa Thunderbirds men's basketball team made a tenacious comeback to beat the Scottsdale Artichokes, 71-70.

Falling behind quickly in the beginning, Mesa trailed by as much as 15 points within the first 10 minutes of the game.  But chipping away for the rest of the half, cutting Scottsdale's lead to just five at halftime help Mesa focus on what they needed to do in the second half.

Being led by Sherman Dedrick Jr and Carter Coray underneath, both big men scored nine points each in the second half while shooting 17-30 (56.7%), with most of Mesa's buckets coming from inside the paint.  And whatever points weren't being scored underneath, the T-Birds connected at the free-throw line, shooting 12-13 in the second half, 14-16 overall for the game.

It was Coray who led Mesa scorers with 17 points while also pulling down seven rebounds while Dedrick scored 11 points.

Mesa is now 16-12 overall and 12-8 in conference play.  The T-Birds will play at home this Saturday vs Chandler-Gilbert beginning at 4 pm.
