T-Birds Fall in OT to Phoenix College, 83-79

Mesa, AZ - It's been a tough week for the Mesa Thunderbirds men's basketball team as they lost both Wednesday night's game at Central AZ and Saturday night's game against Phoenix College in overtime.  The T-Birds took an 83-79 defeat at Theo Heap Gym to move to 4-3 overall on the season.

With the T-Birds trailing at the end of the first half, it was the Bears who connected on eight three pointers in the first 20 minutes while the Thunderbirds failed to make any of the nine three-pointers they attemted.

In the second half, Cam Burist finally lit up the scoreboard by connected on three three-pointers, helping Mesa scratch back into the game.  Near the 10 minute mark of the second half, Mesa was able to tie the game at 60.  With the game tied at 71 with four seconds to play, Mesa had an attempt at a game winner but a turnover foiled any plans of victory and the game went to overtime.

During the overtime, Mesa never took the lead.  Phoenix College went ahead three different times with Mesa tying it back up twice but it was the Bears who finalize the four point victory in the end.

Cam Burist and Jok Jok each finished with a team high 15 points while Isais Pineda scored 13 and Kyle Fischer scored 11 points.

Mesa moves to 1-2 in the ACCAC conference.  The T-Birds will be back in action next Wednesday when they face the Glendale Gauchos at home, with a 7:30 pm tip off.
