T-Birds Let the 3's Fly in Upset of #4 Salt Lake, 93-77

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds upset the #4 Salt Lake Bruins on the opening day of the Fiesta Bowl Junior Shootout, 93-77, to advance to the winner's bracket Friday night.

Mesa had a shooting night to remember, knocking down 60 percent (34-56) of its shots while connecting on 12 three pointers on the night.  

Leading the way on the night for the T-Birds was Sinou Diallo, who finished with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists.  Right behind him in scoring was Adonis Arms with 21 points and Brent Kimbrel finished with 16 points, Kimbrel connecting on four of eight three-pointers.

Salt Lake held to a 26-23 advantage at the 8:47 mark of the first half but it was the T-Birds who finished the rest of the half strong, outscoring the Bruins 20-8 to end the half with the lead, 45-34.

In the second half, Mesa held to a steady double digit advantage throughout, never allowing the Bruins to get within nine points.

With the victory, the T-Birds will now play in the 6 pm game Friday night against the winner of the College of Central Florida and Indian Hills game.
