Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds had five players score in double figures Saturday afternoon and four of them were bench players as the T-Birds defeated the Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters, 85-75.
Led by Michael Vos-Otin, who scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Mesa also had big bench contributions from Antwan Ross-Jones (18 points, 4-9 3 PT's), Obi Megwa (11 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds) and Bryce Cheney (10 points, 7 rebounds).
Mesa dramatically outscored the Gila Monsters in bench points, 58-7, and also outscored Eastern in the paint, 44-26.
Down 40-34 at halftime, Antwan Ross-Jones quickly connected on three three-pointers along with a few buckets from Jamil Wilson-Jones (15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Michael Vos-Otin, Mesa took over the lead 49-47, five minutes into the half.
Mesa scored 51 points in the second half, 42 of which came from the T-Bird bench.
The T-Birds improve their record to 11-3, 6-1 in the ACCAC. Mesa has a road game at Scottsdale on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. then a big conference game against Cochise College at home at 4 p.m.
