Men's basketball's McClelland headed for South Dakota

MESA, AZ - Former Mesa men's basketball star Shy McClelland will continue his career at the University of South Dakota it was announced by the Coyotes recently.

McClelland is one of six new players added this season by USD head coach Craig Smith, and is expected to make an impact right away.

According to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Smith calls McClelland "a tough, hard-nosed, competitive person," and should fit in nicely in the Coyotes' backcourt.

At MCC as a sophomore, McClelland averaged 15.5 points, 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds and led the T-Birds to both the ACCAC Division I and Region I championships. Mesa had a 26-5 record that year.

He was a first team all-ACCAC choice. For his two-year MCC career he scored 579 points and had 287 assists.
