Hot shooting, big rebounding, pace Mesa men in 95-72 blitz of Eastern Arizona

THATCHER, AZ - Continuing a trend in recent games, the Mesa men had another big shooting night, especially from three-point range, and dominated the rebounding, in a 95-72 win at Eastern Arizona (9-9, 3-7) Wednesday night.

The T-Birds (11-5, 8-2) posted their highest scoring total of the year, and surged into a tie with Phoenix for first place in the ACCAC as the first half of conference play draws near.

A huge first half saw MCC grab a 49-27 halftime lead and never look back in posting its third straight victory.

All five starters scored in double figures with three, Kyle Bingham (Fr, Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.), Andrew Jones (So., Portland, Ore/Westview H.S.) and Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe H.S.) all dropping in 16. Jordan Pratt (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) added 12 and Giani Dailey (So., Phoenix, AZ/St. Mary's H.S.) had 11.

It added up to a 33-61 shooting night for Mesa, a .541 percentage. The Thunderbirds were also 12-20 (.600) on three-pointers.

In addition, Mesa owned the boards, 43-26, with Pratt grabbing a season-high eight and Jones and Holloway taking in seven each.

At the other end, MCC limited EAC to .417 shooting from the floor (25-60) and just .321 (9-28) on threes.

Mesa concludes the first half of ACCAC play visiting Tohono O'odham Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
