Mesa men rout Chandler-Gilbert, 73-43

  MESA, AZ - Taking control early, the Mesa men raced to a 73-43 wn over Chandler-Gilbert in Theo Heap Gym Saturday afternoon. It was the T-Birds' eighth straight win over the Coyotes.

  MCC (10-5, 7-2) never trailed afoer Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe H.S.) canned a three-pointer to give the T-Birds a 7-6 lead at the 16:26 mark of the first half.

  The lead quickly shot to ten points, 18-8, as part of a 15-2 MCC run and was 20 points, 43-23, at halftime.

  CGCC (7-10, 1-8) did manage to close to within 14 at 52-38 when Frankie Teran hit a jump shot with 11:21 to play, but the Thunderbirds responded by holding the Coyotes to just five more points the rest of the way.

  Holloway and Andrew Jones (So., Portand, Ore/Westview H.S.) each scored 15 points and Charles Wardell (So., Milwaukee, Wisc/Northwest Secondary H.S.) added 11.

  MCC had a fine shooting day, going 28-50 from the floor, a .560 percentage, and made 11 of 22 three-point attempts. Wardell was 3-4 and Holloway 3-5.

  Jordan Pratt (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) had six assits and Holloway five.

  Two players, Michael Carter, Jr., with 20 points and Teran with 19, scored all but four of CGCC's points.

  The T-Birds will have a road stretch ahead of them with four of the next five games away from Theo Heap Gym. It begins with a visit to Eastern Arizona Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
