MESA, AZ - The 50th anniversary season of men's basketball at Mesa kicked off with an international flavor Wednesday night at Theo Heap Gym as the T-Birds hosted the Angola Junior National Team. MCC cruised to an easy, 91-43, win.
A three-pointer by Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) put the Thunderbirds ahead 5-3 and it was smooth sailing from there.
Mesa quickly shot in front, 34-8, and had a 44-22 halftime lead. The T-Birds were never seriously threatened in the second half.
Jordan Pratt (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) led four MCC players in double figures with 16 points. Holloway added 15, Nate Jimerson (Fr., Bullhead City, AZ/Mohave H.S.) scored 12 and Kyle Bingham (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) contributed 11.
Bingham also had a team-high seven rebounds and Mitch Burnett (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Central H.S.) had six along with three blocked shots. Pratt chipped in with five steals.
The T-Birds have a week off before opening ACCAC play at Cochise next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
