Apodaca earns NJCAA national Offensive Player of the Week honors

NJCAA Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - A record-setting performance, plus directing a charge that led Mesa to scoring 27 unanswered points and a come-from-behind victory, have earned MCC quarterback Austin Apodaca (So., Longmont, Colo/Silver Creek H.S.) national Offensive Player of the Week honors from the NJCAA.

Apodaca threw a school-record six touchdown passes, including three in the fourth quarter, as MCC rallied to defeat New Mexico Military, 53-40, Saturday.

He completed 29 of 44 throws for 313 yards without an interception.

The six TD passes broke the mark of five set three times un the past, most recently by Blake Kemp, who is now at East Carolina, last year.

Apodaca has tossed 18 for TDs so far this season, ranking him fifth nationally in that department. His completion percentage of .653 (164-251) is eighth best and his average of 257.8 yards per game ranks ninth.

The T-Birds have the weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 4 against Arizona Western at John D. Riggs Stadium.
