Doherty Throws Complete Game, Patty Homers as T-Birds Win 10-0 (7)
Mesa, AZ - The #18 Mesa Thunderbirds baseball team defeated the Paradise Valley Pumas Friday afternoon, 10-0, in a game that was finalized in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Paul Steffensen single to score Corey Chaplin.
The runs came early for the Thunderbirds as Connor Denning led off the game with a single. Steffensen then doubled to put runners on second and third for Luke Patty. Patty singled up the middle, scoring both Denning and Steffensen to make it an early 2-0 advantage. The T-Bird offense never relented as the second inning saw Mesa push across four more runs, the big hit coming again from Patty as he hit a two-run no-doubter to left field, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Those runs alone were enough for starting pitcher Cameron Doherty, who pitched seven solid innings for the T-Birds, allowing just five hits, striking out six while allowing only one walk.
Mesa would two more runs in the sixth inning and seventh inning to finalize its 10-0 win.
Mesa moves to 17-8 overall on the season. The T-Birds and Pumas will be back in action tomorrow at PVCC, beginning at noon.
