#15 Mesa Gets First Conference Win vs Glendale in 12-6 (8) Victory

Mesa, AZ - After taking care of a few easy wins to begin the season, the T-Birds finally played a conference team in the Glendale Gauchos.  #15 Mesa played a solid game for a 12-6 victory over the Gauchos, an eight inning game due to light.

The Gauchos scored the first three runs in the top of the first inning but Mesa answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with four runs.  With the bases loaded, Ben Lewis singled to left field to score two runs but Lewis was thrown out on his attempt to get to second.  Paul Steffenson then doubled to score Marcus Skundrich from third to tie the game at three.  

Joshua Brown then singled to right field to score Steffenson from second to take the 4-3 advantage.

Mesa then put a seven spot up in the third inning to take an 11-3 lead.  The T-Birds racked up seven hits in the inning, two of which were doubles.

On the hill for Mesa, Cameron Doherty pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.  He struck out three without allowing a walk.  Richard Walker pitched 2.2 innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs, striking out four and walking one.  Dustin Schorie a third of inning allowing just a walk with Jake Denham finishing the eighth inning with just allowing a walk as well.

Ben Lewis finished 3-4 on the day with two RBI's and one run while Paul Steffenson went 2-3 with three RBI's, two runs and two walks.

Mesa moves to 10-0 on the season with a 1-0 conference record.  The T-Birds will now play at Glendale Saturday at noon.
