Chandler-Gilbert Gets 4-3 Win Over #6 Mesa

Mesa, AZ - The Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes took the second game of a two game series from the #6 Mesa Thunderbirds, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at MCC.

The Coyotes scored in the top of the first inning off of Mesa starting pitcher Kody Funderburk but it was Funderburk who put Mesa ahead in the bottom of the inning with a two run rocket over the right center field fence to give Mesa a 2-1 lead.

Cameron Cruz singled to lead off the second inning, which he eventually came around and scored on a Coyote wild pitch to make it a 3-1 Mesa advantage.

The bats then went cold for Mesa as they only could manage one more hit throughout the rest of the seven innings.  Chandler-Gilbert was able to tack on a run in the third inning and two runs in the seventh inning.

This is the third straight two game series Mesa has split with a conference opponent, their sixth conference series split of the season.  The only series sweep the T-Birds have had was against Gateway at the end of February.

Mesa is now 18-7 overall with a 9-6 conference record.  They will travel down to Douglas, AZ on Saturday for a double-header with Cochise College, first pitch at noon.
