Baseball falls at Scottsdale, 4-2

  SCOTTSDALE, AZ -The Mesa baseball team fell at Scottsdale Tuesday, 4-2, but maintained its two-game margin over Phoenix in the bid to keep the No. 2 seed in the Region I Tournament.

  The T-Birds (35-16, 22-15) lead remains two games with three to play as Phoenix fell to GateWay Tuesday, 5-4.

  Against the Artichokes (28-22, 18-19), Mesa was unable to solve Jared Bell until the ninth, falling behind 4-0.

  In the ninth, Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Issaquah, Wash/Issaquah H.S.) and Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) hit one out singles and were driven home on a double by Jacob Boston (FR., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.).

  Boston was the only T-Bird to get more than one hit, although Drew Lawrence (Fr., Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek H.S.) doubled and Danny Lutz (So., Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain H.S.) triple.

  The two teams will meet again Wednesday at Mesa at 3:00 p.m.
