Another ACCAC DI sweep as baseball downs Central Arizona to run win streak to ten

COOLIDGE, AZ - Mesa's streaking baseball team won its tenth straight, and gained its second straight doubleheader sweep of an ACCAC Division I opponent as it took two from Central Arizona Saturday, 3-1 and 7-2.

The wins ran Mesa's winning streak to ten and improve the T-Birds to 28-5 on the year and 18-4 in conference play. CAC is 21-11 and 6-10.

Two more young pitchers had outstanding outings for MCC.

Kent Hasler (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) shut down the Vaqueros in the opener, going all seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run. He struck out seven and walked just one.

In game two it was Michael Warning (Fr., Henderson, Nev/Coronado H.S.) who got the T-Birds off to a good start. He pitched five innings, allowing just six hits and two runs while fanning six.

Mesa trailed 1-0 entering the fifth of game one when Jordan Rose (So. Tremonton, Utah/Bear River H.S.) led off with a double. After a single by Casey Moses (So., North Las Vegas, Nev/Centennial H.S.) singled, Jordan Zimmerman (So., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) brought both home with a base hit.

Zimmerman added another RBI in the seventh when he drove in Alex Gudac (So., West Jordan, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic H.S.) who had doubled.

Zimmerman finished 3-4 with all three RBIs. Moses was 2-3 and Gudac 2-4.

In game two MCC was down 2-0 when it exploded in the third and fourth.

Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Issaquah, Wash/Issaquah H.S.) knocked in two of the runs in the third with a single. A triple by Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) and a double by Kyle Gibbs (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista H.S.) highlighted the fourth inning.

After Warning completed his strong outing, Ryan Chen (So., Las Vegas, Nev/Arbor View H.S.) and Garrett Bowman (So, Roy, Utah/Roy H.S.) gave MCC four strong innings of relief, allowing just one hit and no runs.

Zimmerman, Morimoto and Jacob Boston (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) all had three hits in the game.

The T-Birds complete a stretch of six straight ACCAC Division I games when they host Arizona Western Tuesday in a noon doubleheader.
