Late outburst lifts baseball over Chandler-Gilbert, 10-6

CHANDLER, AZ - Trailing 3-0 heading into the seventh inning, Mesa exploded for ten runs over the final three frames to take a 10-6 win over Chandler-Gilbert in the first of a two-game series Tuesday.

MCC put together a five-run seventh inning, added another in the eight and surged to four more in the ninth.

Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) ignited the rally in the seventh with a two-run homer, his third of the season. He fell just a single short of the cycle with a double in the eighth and a triple in the ninth. He accounted for four RBIs.

Alex Gudac (So., West Jordan, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic H.S.) continued his hot hitting, going 3-5 with three RBIs. He was 12-14 last week.

James Anderson (So., Henderson, Nev/Coronado H.S.) was 2-3 and Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Issaquah, Wash/Issaquah H.S.) went 2-5 with a double.

Evan Fresquez (So., Las Vegas, Nev/Coronado H.S.) picked up the win, improving to 5-0 on the year. He went eight innings, allowing eight hits, but only three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out six and walked none.

Danny Lutz (So., Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain H.S.) quelled a late CGCC rally in the ninth, when the Coyotes scored three, in a non-save situation.

The teams meet again Wednesday in Mesa at 3:00 p.m.
