Baseball splits at Pima

TUCSON, AZ - Tyler Carvalho (So., Lancaster, Calif/Paraclete H.S.) picked up his third win of the year with a, two-hit,  1-0 shutout, but Mesa suffered its first loss of the season in the nightcap, 7-4, in a split with Pima Saturday.

Carvalho struck out seven without a walk in improving his record to 3-0 and lowering his ERA to 0.64.

MCC got the only run of the game in the fourth when, with two out, Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) singled and scored on Jacob Boston's (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) base hit.

In the second game Pima put together a five-run third. In the top of the inning MCC had taken a 1-0 lead on a double by Matt Hart (Fr., Tempe, AZ/Seton Catholic H.S.) and another by Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Spanish Fork H.S.)

The Aztecs, however, extended the margin to 7-1 in the fifth before Mesa added three in the sixth on a three-run triple by Noah Kelly (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.).
