The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (5-23, 0-17 ACCAC) lost 88-52 to Mesa Community College in an ACCAC game at the SMCC Gym on Feb. 26. Sophomore Leslie Aguirre led SMCC with 12 points and five assists. Sophomores Rahimeh Salaam and Valery Velazquez added 10 in the loss.
The Cougars shot 43.8 percent (21 of 48) from the field and added 22 rebounds, 13 assists, six steals, and four blocks.
Aguirre shot 6 of 10 from the field and added two rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes. Salaam was 5 of 9 from the floor and recorded three rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in 32 minutes. Velazquez was a perfect 4 for 4 with two 3-pointers and one assist.
Freshman Destiny Dixon scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers, and sophomore Auak Jok scored six points off the bench with two rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 30 minutes.
