PUMA BASEBALL GETS MUCH NEEDED WIN OVER MESA
Puma Baseball (20-22) got a much needed win over Mesa (26-16). The Pumas are currently tied for fifth in the ACCAC DII standings, one spot away from qualifying for playoffs. 
 
Friday, April 5: PVCC 2, MCC 8
The Pumas couldn't keep up with Mesa and fell 8-2 on April 5 at Mesa. 
 
The Thunderbirds took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. However, in the top of the fourth inning, the Pumas took over the lead after Mesa committed an error, and Eric Dessens singled, scoring two. 
 
Those were the only two runs the Pumas were able to muster in the game, and the Thunderbirds scored seven more runs to secure the victory. 
 
Joseph Hanning stepped on the hill first for the Pumas. The righty gave up six hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking four. 
 
Andrew Armas, Isaac McNair-Seigler, and Dessens each collected a hit for the Pumas. Dessens led the team with one RBI. 
 
Saturday, April 6: PVCC 3, MCC 1
Andrew Armas collected three hits in three at bats, as the Pumas defeated the Thunderbirds 3-1 on April 6 at home. Armas hit a solo home run to right field in the fifth inning, singled in the second, and singled in the sixth. 
 
Both teams were strong on the hill, Pumas pitchers struck out seven batters, while Mesa sat three. 
 
The Pumas were able to get on the board early when Cooper Holtorf singled, scoring one run. After the Thunderbirds tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning, the Pumas were able to take the lead for good when Armas hit his solo home run in the  fifth. 
 
Ian Koosman earned the win for the Pumas. The right-hander surrendered five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out six and walking three. Quinn Logeree earned the save for the Pumas. 
 
The Pumas tallied 10 hits in the game. Holtorf drove the middle of the line up, going 1-3 and leading the Pumas with two RBI's. Jackson Babione and Armas each collected three hits for the Pumas. Defensively, the Pumas turned one double play and did not commit a single error. Babione had the most plays with 11. 
 
The Pumas will play GateWay on Tuesday, April 9 at home. First pitch is at 3:00pm.
