The South Mountain Community College volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-22 and 29-27) to Mesa Community College in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on Oct. 23. Hayley Meshay led SMCC with 11 kills on 20 swings (.400) and added 15 assists and five digs, but the Thunderbirds prevailed in three-straight sets.
As a team, SMCC hit .126 on 119 swings in the match. The Cougars best set came in the second, when they hit .135 (12 kills, 37 total attacks) before falling 25-22.
Jayden Gormley and Mikki Nielsen each had seven kills for SMCC. Mackenzie Cumbie led the Cougars with 17 assists whule Kaley Hosler had a team-high 12 digs.
