Avalos and Ton play close doubles match but Aztecs men's tennis are blanked vs. Mesa CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (1-1, 0-1 in ACCAC) opened ACCAC conference play on Thursday against Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs fell to the No. 7 ranked Thunderbirds 9-0 at the West Campus Tennis Courts.

Sophomore doubles team Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) and Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) played a close match and led 8-7 but lost in the end 9-8 (7-5 in tie-breaker) to David Felix and Matt Fisher. Avalos lost to Felix 6-0, 6-1 in their No. 1 singles match while Ton fell to Linus Holthey at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) and freshman Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) dropped their match at No. 2 doubles to Holthey and Noel Maurin 8-4. Reisig won the first set in his No. 3 singles match but fell in three sets to Maurin 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (9). Sotelo lost 6-1, 6-0 to Fisher in their No. 4 singles match.

At No. 3 doubles, sophomores Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) and Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma HS) lost 8-2 to Kim Donghuyah and Eduardo Couto. Lopez dropped his No. 5 singles match to Donghuyah 6-0, 6-1 and Singh Kaila fell to Couto 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

The Aztecs will play a non-conference match on Saturday against the New Mexico Military Institute in Mesa, AZ at 2:00 p.m.
