Aztecs men's tennis gets shut out at No. 5 Mesa CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (2-2) struggled on the road on Thursday at Mesa Community College.

  • The Aztecs fell to the No. 5 ranked Thunderbirds 9-0.
  • Sophomore Chris McDaniels (Tanque Verde HS) played a tough match at No. 1 singles and even things up with a second set win but he fell in the end to Lukas Hoffrichter 6-4, 0-6, 10-4.
  • Freshman Oscar Aguilera dropped his No. 2 singles match to Corey Pabst 6-3, 6-4 while sophomore Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) lost in his No. 3 singles match to Maxim Kirsch 6-0, 6-1.
  • Freshman Edgar Franco (Cibola HS) was blanked in his No. 4 singles match to Yohann Prinsen 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Darin Trejo (St. David HS) fell at No. 5 singles to Jorge Sala 6-0, 6-1.
  • In doubles competition, McDaniels and Boyer dropped a close match at No. 1 doubles to Hoffrichter and Tyler Davis 8-6. Aguilera and Franco lost to Kirsch and Lucas Severo 8-1.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Tennis Courts next Thursday, Apr. 4 when they host Glendale Community College. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
