Cross country opens seasons with fine showing at New Mexico Lobo Inv.
Albuquerque, N. M. – The Mesa cross country teams got their seasons off to a fine start competing at the University of New Mexico Lobo Invitational Saturday.
Led by sophomore Flynn Fuhrmann, who placed eighth individually, the Mesa men placed fifth behind New Mexico, Texas-El Paso, New Mexico State and the Duke Track Club, and ahead of the only other two-year competition, New Mexico J.C.
Fuhrmann covered the 5,000-meter course in 15:56.88 in his season-opening competition. Sophomore Jalen Chee was 27th in 16:40.10 and sophomore Andrew McComber took 29th place with a time of 16:53.85.
For the MCC women, who placed fifth, freshman Ellis Collins placed 21st with a 5,000-meter clocking of 20:05.01. Sophomore Maggie Orr was the T-Birds second runner across the line, finishing 25th at 20:23.96. Freshman Gabby Wiswell finished in 29th place with a time of 21:48.03.
After an open week the Mesa squads will travel to Tucson to compete in the University of Arizona's Dave Murray Invitational on Sept. 23.
